Web Users
TrustAssure © works in unison
and partnership with the consumer and with parents to provide
one commodity that helps
to govern the open environment of the electronic Internet medium,
information. The informed
consumer or parent becomes a person able to navigate the web
in a more confident and
secure manner.
Personal Information
Be careful of the type of
information you supply to any site or vendor. Your Social Security
number or mother's maiden
name as well as credit card numbers are extremely sensitive data.
Each web site should have
a posted privacy statement that outlines what personal information
is gathered, why, and how
it will be used. Be cautious about doing business with sites that
request personal data and
do not post privacy policies.
Passwords
Try to develop your passwords
in unique patterns or random code. Avoid using family names,
pets, birthdays and such.
Never give your password to anyone and keep all documentation of
your passwords in a secure
place.
Credit Cards
Always check the site page
before providing any credit card numbers to insure that the system
is supported by a secure
server. Typically you will see a small lock icon in the lower corner of
your terminal screen. Web
sites that do not use secure forms or servers typically provide an
alternative method of transaction
by telephone or through the USPS.
TrustAssure © Seal
If a web site displays a
TrustAssure © seal it provides you with the assurance that the site
has been reviewed to verify
that services are provided in a secure manner and that
security and
privacy documentation has been provided for all site users to examine.
You may click on any TrustAssure ©
seal and you should go directly to a certification page
provided for approved
members. Use the search engine area provided for Professional member
reports. Example This certification
confirms the web site and business membership status. If you are
not taken to a certification
page and cannot verify the membership or business record please
contact TrustAssure © and
inform us. Provide the web site URL and business name.
Children
Try to spend the time with
younger children when they are actively logged onto the the Internet.
You may also consider using
filtered browsers and filtering software to prevent children from
accessing inappropriate
sites and content. TrustAssure © monitors member sites and requires
that pornographic, violent,
and offensive material, images, and content not be present.
Children should never give
out personal information on the Internet, such as name, address,
phone number, or name of
school, unless supervised by a parent or responsible adult. Also
look for the RSACi label
and check the web site's rating. The lower the number the cleaner
the site content. TrustAssure ©
and the lightOS Internet Guide are rated "0" which implies web site content acceptable
for even young children
to access.
